Farmer Don, LLC was registered in 2012 as a family-run business in New Jersey and is owned by Wendy and Don Kanarr. Don has been gardening since he was three years old. His maternal grandfather and grandmother taught him to plant radishes and marigolds his first year in the garden. His love of gardening has continued to grow to this day. Wendy's fraternal grandfather owned a nursery in Sweden and emigrated to the United States where he raised his family of four children in Connecticut initially but later moved to New Jersey. He was an accomplished gardener. Her maternal grandfather, whose forbears included some Pennsylvania Dutch family members, was also a fantastic gardener. We used to laugh and say Grandpa Covert cold make rocks grow if he wanted to. Wendy was very lucky to have all of this gardening knowledge on both sides of the family available to her as she grew up. Although Don and Wendy grew up a few streets away from one another in Jersey City, New Jersey, it wasn't until Don came home from the Marine Corps in 1971 that they fell in love and got married in 1972.  Don loved Wendy's family from the start and thoroughly enjoyed discussing gardening with Grandpa Covert. In 1973 Grandpa C. nicknamed Don, "The Farmer".  The name stuck and was used as our company name to honor the memory of grandpa and our other family members who have passed on. However, the truth be told, Wendy is still the better gardener of the two!
